IDPP is registered as a professional association in accordance with the provisions of Article 21 of the Constitution of Zambia and Cap 119 of the Laws of Zambia, which provides for freedom of association and the right to form and operate professional bodies.
The Institute operates as a non-profit making organization with a mandate to protect the interests of Doctorate Degree holders and Professors, safeguard academic integrity, and contribute to national economic development through advanced knowledge and expertise.
International affiliation is welcomed — Doctors, researchers and Professors from other countries who meet the requisite criteria are accepted as full members of the Institute, with their qualifications validated by the Zambia Qualifications Authority.

The Executive Council is the supreme governing body of IDPP, responsible for strategic direction, policy oversight and institutional accountability.
12 Elected Councillors
Elected by the membership to represent the interests of Doctorate Degree holders and Professors across Zambia.
Legal Representative
A representative from the Ministry of Justice or the Legal Aid Department, ensuring legal compliance and governance oversight.
Vice Chancellor (Patron)
A serving Vice Chancellor from a public university, serving as Patron and ex-officio Councillor, providing academic institutional leadership.
Presidential Appointee
A qualified public figure appointed by the President of the Institute to bring broader national perspective and expertise.
Three standing committees support the Executive Council in carrying out the Institute's mandate across membership, discipline and research.
Committee 01
Oversees member applications, verifies academic qualifications, manages the membership register, and upholds professional standards across all membership categories.
Committee 02
Handles disciplinary matters involving members, investigates conduct complaints, and recommends appropriate measures to the Executive Council in cases of professional misconduct.
Committee 03
Coordinates research activities, manages consultancy engagements, oversees publication of research outputs, and facilitates evidence-based advisory services to stakeholders.
